Life Sciences Pre-Seed Grant

However promising the results and patents from your fundamental life sciences research may be, before you can get a company off the ground effectively, you will still need to convince other investors and demonstrate the business opportunities of your new technology. The Life Sciences Pre-Seed Grant could be your stepping-stone towards commercial viability.

The Life Sciences Pre-Seed Grant offers a great opportunity for researchers associated with a Dutch university or research institution. Worth up to € 250,000, the Pre-Seed Grant offers superb prospects for those involved in applied research and who are looking to exploit their fundamental research commercially by starting up a new business.

Previously only available to those concentrating specifically on genomics, the grant has now been opened up to include the entire Life Sciences field. Alongside the main financier, the Netherlands Genomics Initiative (NGI), it now also includes financing and support from Life Sciences and Health Innovation Program (LSH) and ZonMw (The Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development).

What next?

The next step is to submit an application. For a description of the criteria and guidelines that you must follow to be eligible, click here. On behalf of NGI, LSH and ZonMw - we wish you the best of luck in taking the next step towards commercial exploitation of your research!

How will it help me?

Apart from the obvious cash injection, being awarded a Pre-Seed Grant sets the scene for creating a commercial platform for exploiting your research.

The grant may be used to validate your research, perform  pre-clinical research or (further) clinical research, or to fund practical issues concerning starting up a company, such as acquiring knowledge on legal or IP aspects, or for technology transfer. The final objective is to ensure there is an effective and powerful business plan in place, making the new company viable, profitable and attractive to possible further investors.
