About

The Pre-Seed Grant was introduced in 2008 by NGI. Where previously it was intended only for genomics-based initiatives, the grant is now open to the entire Life Sciences field. The budget has also been expanded from
€ 9 million to a total of € 10.4 million and is provided by NGI (€ 9 million), LSH (€ 1 million) and ZonMw
(€ 0.4 million). The Life Sciences Pre-Seed Grant is administrated by ZonMw.

Financing may be used to fund practical issues concerning starting up of a company, acquiring knowledge on legal or IP aspects, or for technology transfer. For further details about the possibilities, please refer to the programme text available here.

The overall aim of the grant is to support you as potential starter in your first steps towards applying your knowledge commercially, or in other words, setting up a company. You - the starter - are either a researcher at a Dutch university or knowledge institute. In the past, the Pre-Seed Grant was only available to those in the field of genomics. Now, anyone involved in Life Sciences (subject to certain criteria) can apply.

Subsidy sums

Per grant there is a maximum of € 250.000 available. The selection committee may advise against providing the full sum if they are insufficiently convinced that the project is technically or economically feasible. Applicants may yet be awarded a 'first-phase' grant, however.
